Before falling in love with painting, Jaylyn fell in love with her own identity. Jaylyn's works are reflections of her life experiences as a black woman dealing with natural hair prejudice. As she began to explore the world of art, she found her passion representing the beauty in Afro-centric hairstyles. After earning her Bachelors and Masters degree, she continues to explore the perception of Afro-textured hair and the black identity. Her paintings of hair convey a message of embracing versatility, identity, and culture.
